Employers check your social-media presence

I’m sure you understood this, especially when you were applying for a role. And you’ve been counselled to keep your social media presence sufficiently bland that even your Mother wouldn’t be embarrassed.

And on that point here’s an info graphic from the WSJ on what US employers are looking for when they check up on yor of Social media

But an article in Asia One business, states that according to recent research  Employers say they don’t believe the data they see on Social Media sites anyway. HK and Singapore CFOs wouldn’t accept qualifications posted online, nor job history!

So according to my logic Employers are willing to believe the bad stuff and unwilling to believe the good stuff.  Fair enough.

So your Social media footprint- FB, LinkedIn, etc- can’t help you get a job in Asia, but could quite conceivably torpedo your efforts.

Have you any views on whether your social media presence helped or hindered you getting a job… Social Media mavens excepted, please.
